BEHIND THE EYES

As her mother walked out the door,
the little girl looked around the room.
Tears streamed down her face,
All alone she cried....

Where are you going?
What did I do?
I thought I knew you
through and through.
We shared our laughter and so much pain.
Why are you leaving,
don’t you have shame?

Hardened by the emptiness she felt
A prisoner of time
Move ahead and forget....

A young woman now
A wall destined not to break....
And then one day she met a friend
Shared her heart and her soul.
As time went on she felt like the same little girl
All alone she cried....

Where are you going?
What did I do?
I thought I knew you
through and through.
We shared our laughter and so much pain.
Why are you leaving,
don’t you have shame?

The pain engulfed her.
The loneliness smothered her.
The shame she felt followed her
and
she walked along and took her life.

Upon hearing the news,
her mother stunned
sat alone and cried

Where are you going?
What did you do?
I thought I knew you
through and through.
You showed much laughter and felt no pain.
Why did you leave me,
Don’t you have shame?

Don’t be fooled by the happiness you see
Reach out and search behind the eyes
Sometimes its not the laughter you see
but its the pain inside.
